Some of the regulars

My camera has both a manual and an automatic focus. I’ve given up on the former, at least for the time being, and have been enjoying the camera a lot more. I took it with me today so that I could capture some of the birds I see regularly.

Forest Park

The Pied-billed Grebe is looking very dapper in its breeding plumage:

The view finder doesn’t always provide as clear an image as I would like—I thought I was focused on the Swamp Sparrow that was also in the water, but picked up this Song Sparrow instead (the birds that have come in in the past couple of weeks have reddish streaks, as this bird has):

He flew onto a branch next to me, threw back his head, and belted out a song:

Tower Grove Park

I finally got a photo of two of the owlets:

Great photos! We especially liked the one of the two owlets in Tower Grove. We were visiting out daughter (she lives in St. Louis) and she took us over to see the owls there on March 12th, 2006. We saw both the male, female and one owlet that was out of the nest and had a glipse of the other two that were in the nest yet at that time. So thanks for the update and current photo. Keep up the good work on reporting your sightings. We enjoy them.

    John and Judith,

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the photos and that you got to see the owlets. I hadn’t been able to spend much time in the park—the day I took the photo was the first time I had seen the babies.
