Playing catch up and it never fails

Catch up

The past few months have been busy ones, and it’s been hard to find time to bird, much less keep Urban Birder up to date. I have, however, faithfully carried the camera along with me to work and on the few birding trips I’ve taken. In the next week I’ll upload some of the photos I took during the summer and early fall.

September 25th was the last day I spent on the 11th floor of the McDonnell Pediatric Research Building. Our unit has moved to the new building on the corner of Children’s Place and Kingshighway. Being able to photograph one of the med. school Peregrine Falcons that often perch outside the window seemed a parting gift. The following was the penultimate of around a dozen photos; the bird was getting ready to fly, and the last photo of the series showed an empty perch:

It never fails

Although I heard Yellow-billed Cuckoos during the summer, I had few good looks at any. This afternoon as I was leaving work, one flew into a young tree, at eye level, around 10 feet away. I had to take that deep breath, relax, and enjoy looking at it while it gave field guide views. Today was the day it would have been silly to take the camera in—I had no time to do more than take the short path to and from the office.
